Where the core value of democracy is to enshrine representational politics and protect minorities, Pakistan and India have – on their own timelines – eschewed both. It seems that we are going on a downhill slide and all of South Asia will end up “at the bottom of the heap, says Kanak Mani Dixit. In a searing discussion, Dixit moderates Harsh Mander and Pervez Hoodbhoy as they discuss the paths in which two key South Asian countries – India and Pakistan – are progressing in the path of religious fundamentalism. Hoodbhoy is a nuclear physicist and social activist. Mander is a former IAS officer and noted activist. Both noted Pakistan and India’s particular journeys, highlighting key events in their histories that have pushed them further into the darkness of religious fundamentalism.
