Kanak Mani Dixit Exclusive: Nepal in Chaos, Gen Z Revolt, 25 Dead & Hunt For New PM | India Today

From India Today (Sep 11, 2025)

Nepal is facing a significant political crisis following a “Gen Z” protest on September 8th, which led to a violent crackdown leaving 25 people dead and over 300 wounded. The country is in a political vacuum with negotiations underway to form an interim caretaker government, though no consensus has been reached on a leader. The army has stepped in to restore calm but is facing questions over its role during the violence. Amidst the chaos, political parties and civil society are regrouping to prevent a constitutional collapse. Journalist Kanak Mani Dixit stated, “the constitution of Nepal is not dead and there are enough people in Nepal rising up to try to save our constitution because it was made up by a elected constituent assembly over eight years and it is an inclusive constitution.”
